🌾Everyday Sourdough Tortillas

Prep 10 min Cook 1–2 min per side

These are the kind of tortillas you make without thinking… simple, comforting, and always there for you. The kind you tear, fold, and fill while they’re still warm from the pan — soft, nourishing, and made by hand 🤍

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (240g) sourdough discard (or active starter)
  • 1/2 cup (120g) warm water
  • 1/4 cup (60g) olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ~2–2½ cups (240–300g) flour

Instructions

  1. 1

Bring it together — In a bowl, gently mix your sourdough discard, warm water, olive oil, and salt until smooth and creamy. Slowly add in the flour, bringing everything together into a soft, pliable dough — smooth to the touch, never sticky, just right.

  2. 2

Let it rest — Cover and let the dough rest for 30–60 minutes. This is the quiet moment… where the dough softens, relaxes, and becomes easier to work with.

  3. 3

Divide + roll — Divide into 8–10 pieces and roll each into a small ball. On a lightly floured surface, roll them into thin circles — delicate, simple, and ready to transform.

  4. 4

Cook — Heat a dry pan over medium-high heat. Place each tortilla onto the pan and watch as it bubbles and puffs, cooking for about 1–2 minutes per side until lightly golden with soft, beautiful charred spots.

Ava's Little Touches 🤍

  • Stack them warm and cover with a towel to keep them soft and flexible
  • If they begin to crisp, your pan is too hot — you want them tender, with just a touch of color
  • Add a little extra olive oil if you love that extra soft, pliable texture
  • I keep this dough tucked away in the fridge throughout the week, ready to be rolled fresh each morning — warm tortillas for breakfast wraps, made quietly and with love for my husband, every single day.
