🍔The Only Sourdough Burger Buns You’ll Ever Need
These are the kind of buns that turn something simple into something meaningful — soft, slightly sweet, and made with intention. The kind you place on the table with quiet pride, knowing they were made by your own hands 🤍
Ingredients
- 100g active sourdough starter
- 1 cup (240g) warm almond milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp honey
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 10g salt
- 480–520g flour
Instructions
- 1
Begin the dough — In a large bowl, gently whisk together your sourdough starter, warm almond milk, egg, and honey — a soft, golden base that already feels like something special. Add in the flour and salt, mixing until a shaggy dough forms. Then slowly work in the olive oil, kneading until the dough becomes smooth, soft, and slightly tacky to the touch — alive and full of love.
- 2
Let it rise — Cover your bowl and allow the dough to rest and rise for 6–8 hours, or overnight. This is the quiet part… where time does the work for you. The dough should become puffy, airy, and full of life.
- 3
Shape with care — Turn the dough onto your surface and divide into 8 equal pieces. Gently shape each one into a smooth ball, tucking it under itself to create tension. Place them onto a lined tray and softly press them down just a bit — they will rise again beautifully.
- 4
Second rise — Let the buns rest for another 2–3 hours, until they feel light, delicate, and almost pillowy. This is where they become truly soft.
- 5
Bake until golden — Brush each bun with an egg wash if you’d like that soft, glossy finish, and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 375°F for 18–22 minutes, until golden and warm, filling your kitchen with that comforting, homey scent.
